Thus the Italian field surgeon Federico Corrado described the lack of medical supplies in the Zeithain prisoner of war camp.

In 2024 the Zeithain Memorial Grove opened a special exhibition of artifacts found on the site of the Zeithain prisoner of war camp. The objects, photographed in high resolution, offer a glimpse into the history of the camp. Unknown collectors of military artifacts began digging up objects at the site in autumn of 2016. They unearthed thousands of artifacts, and carried off an unknown number of them. Hundreds of objects were left lying at the site. Many of the finds that have been preserved are medical objects from the period when the camp was used as a field hospital for prisoners of war. The finds include German pharmaceutical products, items of Soviet origin, and objects with Italian inscriptions. The exhibition was organized accordingly in sections on Italian and Red Army prisoners. The finds are a valuable complement to the few extant documents and memoirs especially from the period of the Zeithain field hospital, during which many prisoners died of tuberculosis. Various food supplement containers, for example, bear witness to the hunger and malnutrition under which the prisoners suffered.
